My Story
I had not thought about the seminary until my freshman year of college. I always thought you
had to be a nerd to join the seminary. I went on a Rome pilgrimage the summer before my first
year of college in 2008. It was very powerful. It was at adoration one day when I thought about
the seminary for the first time. At that point, I had been dating a girl for the previous two years,
so my thoughts of the seminary that summer were short lived. I went to the University of North
Dakota for my first year of college and loved it. I was still dating my girlfriend, and we had
plans for the future. During college I started going to daily Mass a couple times a week and then
went to Eucharistic adoration for an hour a week. As I was growing in faith, my relationship
with my girlfriend was slowly drifting apart. Out of the blue, my girlfriend broke up with me,
and told me I need to seriously start thinking about the seminary. I didn't think the seminary was
right for me. I then went on two different seminary visits throughout the school year. I became
very attracted to the life of a priest and a seminarian. I realized that I had been fighting the call
to seminary this whole time. I gave in to God's will. I have never been happier. Knowing that I
am in the seminary has been a huge weight off my shoulders.
